Spiders
Spiders are considered to be synanthropic. That means they thrive in the same environment as humans and live in and around the same structures we inhabit. There are hundreds of different types of spider, but the two that cause the most concern are the brown recluse and black widow
Standard Pests
Although bites from these two types are rare, they do happen. The venom in each is different and humans will have a different reaction

Black Widow
The brown recluse’s venom is hemotoxic and causes necrosis of the skin. This can produce a bleeding, ulcerous wound that can take a long time to heal and is prone to secondary infections
The black widow venom contains a neurotoxin and usually causes a painful, burning sensation with localized swelling and redness
The degree of severity of these two spider bites depends on the sensitivity, health and size of victim. Fatalities are extremely rare
There are effective control measures for spiders that will greatly reduce populations

Ants
Ants are a social insect. They live in colonies that can number in the thousands

It can range a great distance looking for food and water and is very invasive to structures
Once a food or water source is found, they lay a pheromone scent for others to follow

Over the last several years, ants have over taken roaches as public enemy number one
The key to effective ant control is to find the trails and treat directly. There are specialized products for the exterior and specialized baits for the interior. All of these products are target specific and extremely effective if placed and used properly
Roaches
The 2 main types are the German Roach and the Oriental Roach

Although both will illicit the same response of disgust, they vary from each other on size, color and biology

ORIENTAL ROACH
The german roach is small, fast and very adaptable. One of these can survive by eating on one human hair for months
These typically start in and around a kitchen environment and are usually carried in from an outside source
The oriental roach is large, slow and prefers to live in the damp basement, garage or exterior
People who don’t like to throw the word “roach” around loosely will refer to these as "waterbugs"
Cockroaches can pick up disease-causing bacteria, such as Salmonella, on their legs and later deposit them on foods and cause food infections or poisoning
House dust that has cockroach feces and body parts can trigger allergic reactions and asthma
They are common in basements, crawl spaces, cracks and crevices of porches, foundations, and walkways adjacent to buildings
Bedbugs need a blood meal to survive, molt, mate and for the females to lay eggs
The blood eaters
They are not considered to be a social insect, but release an aggregation pheromone that causes them to cluster
